Payroll Assistant

Overview

  • Bates Electric is looking for a Payroll Assistant to help support our Payroll and HR team.
  • We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in getting the details right.
  • This role is critical to ensuring our field teams are paid accurately and on time while supporting the broader Payroll and HR functions.

What You’ll Do

  • Collect, review, and enter daily time data for field and temporary staff
  • Maintain and update weekly payroll tracking reports
  • Assist in processing weekly payroll with a high level of accuracy
  • Generate and manage Purchase Orders (POs) for temporary labor
  • Track and input heavy equipment usage for job costing
  • Manage employee apparel inventory (shirts, etc.)
  • Support Payroll and HR with administrative tasks and reporting

What You Bring

  • Strong attention to detail (mistakes here cost real money)
  • Ability to stay organized while handling multiple deadlines
  • Comfortable working with numbers, spreadsheets, and systems
  • High level of discretion with confidential employee information
  • Reliable and consistent; this role depends on it

Experience

  • 0–3 years in payroll, accounting, or administrative support
  • Experience with time tracking and payroll processes preferred
  • Construction or field-based company experience is a plus

  • Hourly position (rate based on experience)
